Herbert E. Scarf is Sterling Professor of Economics at Yale University, a position he has held since 1979. Among the many distinguished posts he has filled previously are the Director of the Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics at Yale University and Chairman of the Section of Economics Sciences at the National Academy of Sciences. Mr. Scarf has made significant contributions in many areas of theoretical and mathematical economics, including modeling individual decisions and solving sophisticated dynamic optimization problems.
